Synopsis:
This is the second time we have run this new CHCS course designed to provide participants with an overview of substances, mixtures and polymers in the context of chemical based regulation e.g. REACH and CLP. During this one-day course participants will gain an insight into the complex world of chemical nomenclature, an aspect fundamental to compliance with chemical regulation, and apply it to their own areas of work. In particular participants will:
- Understand the different types of chemicals and how they are defined.
- Understand how chemicals are named by the different systems used in various chemical based legislation.
- Understand how to identify and characterise chemicals from analytical data.
- Learn where to look for data and how to assess data reliability, and understand the importance of data sharing.
- Review similarities and differences of global inventories, how polymers are regulated around the world and examine new substance notification schemes.
The course presenter is a well-established regulatory specialist and chemical expert from an international chemical background. He had to make the transition from Regular Chemistry to Regulatory Chemistry and will draw extensively on his experience in presentations and exercises. If you are struggling to see how chemicals are regulated, or to understand complex rules on how chemicals are named, or if you are a chemist moving into the Regulatory area, then this course will be helpful valuable and informative. It also provides a stepping stone to other CHCS modules on more specific areas such as transport of dangerous goods, preparing safety data sheets, classification and labelling, risk characterisation as well as toxicology and ecotoxicology. It should be seen as a complimentary course alongside the modules on European and Asia Pacific chemical control regulations.

Module Tutor:
Colin Rogers spent 29 years heading up the Regulatory departments in major multinational chemical manufacturers, part of which held the responsibility for Regulatory Compliance. Colin has extensive experience in Notification of new chemicals and REACH Registrations, as well as an intimate knowledge of those regulations controlling uses such as food contact, toys and cosmetics. Colin now runs his own consultancy on Regulatory and Quality compliance.

Delegates can be substituted at any time, subject to payment of membership fee if applicable. However, once booked, the full fee is payable.
