On 22 March 2017, the Commission adopted a Regulation on poison centres improving the availability of information needed in case of poisoning. COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) 2017/542 of amends Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and applies from 1st January 2020.
The Regulation will apply to mixtures for consumer use as of 2020. It also targets mixtures for professional and industrial use, for which requirements apply as of 2021 and 2024, respectively.
This webinar will be presented by CHCS Council member Caroline Raine who works at the National Chemical Emergency Centre. Caroline will give an overview of the new Annex VIII to CLP outlining the new harmonised requirements.
The amending regulation adds the paragraph ‘Where under Annex VIII the submitter creates a Unique Formula Identifier, it shall be included on the label in accordance with the provisions of section 5 of Part A of that Annex' to Article 25 of CLP and states that the remainder of the requirements are set out in Annex VIII of CLP. Caroline is the NCEC Regulatory business area manager, with a wealth of experience in interpreting and implementing legislation relating to hazardous chemical substances. The knowledge Caroline has of legislation is wide ranging, covering both supply and transport legislation. This experience has been developed whilst working directly in the chemical industry and through consultancy projects.
Caroline is a qualified DGSA for the transport of hazardous goods by both road and rail, and holds a postgraduate certificate in REACH management. She is a founder member and the current Chairman of the British Association of Dangerous Goods Professionals (BADGP), and is a council member of the Chemical Hazard Communication Society (CHCS). Caroline has worked closely with trade associations, providing legislation advice to the British Association of Adhesives (BASA), British Coatings Federation (BCF), Institute of Metal Finishing (IMF) and the Oil Recycling Association (ORA).
Caroline has also been selected to participate in the newly formed European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) working groups to help industry and the poison centres implement the regulations. Caroline will participate in both the IT tools user group and the Guidance working group.
